Six Months Old!

Today The Bean is six months old!

-It seems like The Bean has really grown this month. We haven't been in for his six month well-check yet, but I'm very curious to see how much weight he's gained and how long he is.

-He LOVES eating. Feeding our little boy is a highlight of the day. He seems to enjoy it so much. He sometimes makes a funny face after the first bite, but then opens wide until we put another spoonful in. If he's hungry and we don't feed him fast enough he "shouts" at us! He eats a variety of foods including apricot, peaches, pears, plums, prunes, watermelon, green beans, carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, beef, chicken, pork, turkey, and brown rice cereal. The only things he hasn't seemed to enjoy are avocado and cantaloupe.

-We think he may be teething. He's always putting things in his mouth to chew on, and has starting doing a weird chompy thing even when he doesn't have anything in his mouth. If he's fussy we can often sooth him by rubbing his gums. We can't feel anything coming through yet, though. While we were away we picked up some Orajel that we sometimes put on before bedtime.

-He continues to make progress with his crawling. He easily rolls over and now seems to enjoy being on his tummy and propping himself up on his arms when looking at toys or just looking around. He'll also get his bum up in the air and try to push himself forward. He does pretty well, especially on a softer surface, and I feel like it won't be too much longer until he figures out real crawling.

-He's also getting close to being able to sit up on his own. He can tripod for about 10 seconds before flopping over.

-Since a few people have remarked on it, I will also include that he is quite good at standing up. There are even times when he makes it obvious that this is what he wants to being doing. He can stand just holding our fingers for quite a while. He also loves to jump both when we're holding him under his arms or in his JollyJumper.

-The Bean's repertoire of sounds is expanding. He coos and shouts and gasps and giggles and even does this funny huffy puffy thing when he is upset. We found it interesting that the ENTIRE time we were away he did not gasp at all, but as soon as we got back home he started to again.

-He has also started making some really silly faces. Our absolute favourite face is still his big toothless grin.

-He did really well with being around all different people on our trip. He didn't seem to mind being held by anyone. We hope that the exposure to different people now will help prevent him from becoming too clingy to us as he gets older.

-We continue to have sleep difficulties. He goes down around 7pm and is usually up about three times a night (around 10:30pm, 1:30am, and 4:30am) before waking up at about 6:30am. We're reading books to help decide what we're going to do to try to get him sleeping through the night. (Any plans are on hold until after our trip to the East Coast to visit my dad later this month.) Naps are still pretty good. Usually if he's been down for a while we go in and he gives us a big smile and we know he's ready to get up. If we go in and he cries, we know he's tired and try to get him to go back down for longer. The nap issue we're facing now is that he WILL NOT nap if we are out. It's like he doesn't want to miss anything that's going on.

-He is now wearing his 3-6 month clothes and even some of his 6mo+ clothes. He has grown SO MUCH this past month.

It is so amazing to be home with The Bean and Jen for the summer. I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it!
